An aged grandfather and his four year old granddaughter spend the cool hours of the morning together, reverently planting the sapling. He tells her this tiny new life will one day reach so tall and so wide and so deep that it will change the entire world around it.
The granddaughter, now an aged grandmother herself, lovingly tends the same, still growing tree with her own grandson; pointing out to him the nests and burrows and bee hives where so many precious lives take shelter within and upon this flourishing tree.
This grandson, now an aged grandpa himself, prunes the now great tree with the help of his own small grandson; teaching him where and when and how to help the tree continue thrive by ensuring rot and pests gain no hold on it.
This grandson decades later continues to care for the massive tree with his own young granddaughter; teaching her to love and respect it even as he teaches her to climb, to sit cradled in its high branches, to absorb the warmth and peace radiating from its deepest roots to the highest leaf tips.
This granddaughter, now aged grandmother herself, sits with her own young grandson in her arms, cradling him in the still ever maturing tree as it cradles them.
Seasons pass and the now aged grandfather directs his own young grandson on how to properly fell the remains of a storm broken tree limb; how to preserve the good wood for the future, to use in crafting things of beauty.
This now aged grandfather sits in the shade of the massive tree, patiently guiding his own young grandson as he learns to carve and shape prepared pruned wood from the great tree into something inspirational.
This now aged grandfather sits beneath the mighty limbs of the tree teaching his own young granddaughter to tune and play the musical instrument that his own grandfather had helped him create from the wood of this very tree.
This now aged grandmother listens with smiles and patience and clapping hands as her own young grandson practices day after day, to play a tune on the family heirloom instrument entrusted to him.
This young grandson, one day sitting beneath the massive still thriving tree pauses in his practice on the ever present instrument, to watch as a young couple lead a donkey into his uncle’s stable across the way.
Later that evening while stargazing from the tree’s highest branches, he’s startled to see shepherds racing across the fields, running directly to the stable, and disappear inside.
Unable to deny his curiosity the young grandson hurries to the ground and slips inside the stable; peeking shyly around the corner he is surprised to see a new mother cradling her infant son.
He gazes in wonder at this beautiful perfect child, his breath caught in his lungs as pure joy fills his heart, wanting nothing more than to give to this precious life everything he has.
Slipping the strap of his drum from his shoulder the young boy looks at Mary, and asks if she would like to hear his song.

Here's the thing:
Regardless of whether or not
we believe in GOD
GOD BELIEVES IN US
humans
Even after multiple millennia
Even after thousands of generations
Even after eight billion broken human promises
a day
GOD STILL BELIEVES IN US
HE still believes that humans have the ability
to accept
HIS love
HIS forgiveness
HIS mercy
HIS grace
HIS salvation
and
HE has the patience to wait
for every single human
to be given the opportunity to
make that choice

GOD was the first
in all of existence to suffer
betrayal by and unrequited love for
the ones closest to
HIS heart
... and yet ...
HE still has it
in HIS heart
to forgive continuously and
continue loving
without reservation
The next time you think you're too old to start doing something new, just remember:
on the day he walked into the throne room and told Pharaoh to let GOD's people go,
